Casa de la cultura / house of culture

In the picture, mi nephew, Pablo in front of the sign in tribute to my father´s with his face painted . You can find this sign in the "house of culture" in Palma del Río (my faher´s hometown in Córdoba,Spain). My family dontated the house so that the town could have a summer cinema, library and some classrooms for youngsters. I used to live there until i was 4 years old.

My personal and humble Oscar´s ceremony review

Never is too late to comment on the oscar´s ceremony on the 22 feb 2009. I have to say that I agree with most of the given awards. I was lucky to
have seen most of the nominated movies.

Seann Penn deserved the actor leading role Oscar, his interpretation of Harvey Milk in the movie is unforgettable and at the end of the movie you really believe in his character. It was a pity though that Mickey Rourke couldn´t get the Oscar, the movie “the wrestler” really moved me and his comeback after so many years should have been more recognized. However, I do think Sean Penn´s role is much more elaborated and deep!
No words about Slum dog millionaire, I have already written about it after i saw the movie,so i don’t want to bore you with that but I wanted to show my recognition for the 8 Oscars this movie has received. I even loved the soundtrack!and the plot was very original and delivered an important message about the poverty in India. It was so sweet when the kids from the movie spoke to the reporters on the red carpet!

Very emotional as well when the oscar went to heath ledger and his family gave a speech in his name. His role was extraordinary and it´s a pity that he cannot win another oscar again.

I also wanted to mention, Wallee´s Oscar one of the most cherished animated characters I have seen in a long time!walleeeee. Man on wire´s award is also well deserved (i have written about it ,too..so). Last but not least, let´s talk about the female roles;I loved Kate Winslet´s speech when she won the Oscar for one of the most beautiful movies i have seen this year so far "the reader" and Penelope, as a Spanish fellow, i feel proud for her but i´m still not convinced that her role in “cristina ,Vicky in Barcelona” was so spectacular!

http://videos.sellamacopla.com/informaciondecontenido.php?con=11132

http://www.radiotelevisionandalucia.es/tvcarta/impe/web/portada

http://www.rtve.es/mediateca/videos/20090212/23-f-dia-mas-dificil-del-rey/406369.shtml

Benjamin Escoriza (Radio Tarifa)´s concert in Dublin

A very unique music group with influences from Southern rhythms like flamenco and arabic music and some touches of Jazz, too. The band´s name says it all "Radio Tarifa", being Tarifa the closest European town to Africa. Benjamin coming from Granada, 2 other members of the band from Jerez de LA Frontera, one from Almeria ,another from Seville and the last 2 members one from Sudan and the other from Granada. Benjamin gipsy´s unmistakable neat voice accompanied by the delightful musicians, made us feel like in Marroco for a while in the Button factory in Dublin. We were unable to remain still and clapped all the way through, "taconeando" with my heels, moving my hands and shouting at him "guapo" and "ese arte" all the time. Yeah, it´s true Andalusian´s special talent and charm is very special. Benjamin at one point of the concert joked and said that they had to stop playing because "la pulicia may come " lol a very typical joke linked to gypsies. He also said the title of every song in Anadalusian and then invented a non-existent transalation into "French" or "Spanglish" lol. I expected a great performance but it was much better than i could have ever imagined! I remember well when Benjamin sang "rumba argelina" and we could not stop our feet! the hour and a half that lasted the concert flew! we didn´t want them to stop!! Irish people that surrounded us ,clapped along and asked me about the group (the may have thought that belonged to their family due to my enthusiasim lol).

RAdio TArifa, a group to see before you die!!!!!!!!!! A group that bring different cultures together in one song!

Ché part one

I couldn´t resist to write a few lines about this movie that i almost missed! I went to the Lighthouse cinema in Dublin since it only lasted a couple of weeks in the cinema i usually go to, by the way I recommend Lighthouse: nice coloured and modern decoration and very comfortable seats!

Well going back to the movie, I was blown away by the role played by Benicio del Toro as Ché and Demina Bichir playing Fidel Castro. At the end of the movie you become a fan of the Cuban revolution and their liders(more fan of Ché not of fidel, i have to say)! they show how the people supported it and that the Cuban guerrilleros were not that blood-thirsty even though had their own rules such as imposing taxes on wealthy land-owners, they also had schools in the jungle since Ché said that "illiterate people are easier to deceive". A human and charismatic Ché is portraiyed, they also show Che´s asmathic problems not improved by his addiction to Cuban cigars! it´s unbeliavable how a born Argentinian but nazionalized Cuban changed the history of Cuba and freed it from the dictatorship of Batista. Ché said that living in a capitalist world is like living in a cage and that they did not hate NorthAmerican people but their government. It´s a pity that Ché original ideas did not give Cubans the freedom they wanted..,Fidel had his own way to interpret them..

I can´t wait to see Ché part 2, this first movie it is mostly set in the jungle, it´s described how the guerrilla started and how they managed to win the revolution.

Excellent actors and a movie for people who are interested in history and che´s point of view since the movie is based on his book "memoir "Reminiscences of the Cuban Revolutionary War".

If somebody asks me whom i´d like to meet if i had the chance,i´d definitely say: Ché or Benicio del Toro since they look so alike in the film!oh my God!

Slumdog millionaire

I knew before I saw this movie that I was going to like it and I wasn´t wrong. IT has a very original plot that shows a beautiful love story, a story with a harsh background, the slums of Mumbai. Many current issues in India are denounced : child explotation, extreme poverty, people living among the rubbish, killings of muslims, drug trafficking, corruption etc.

All starts with a teen from the slums becoming a contestant of the tv programme "who wants to be a millionaire", a teen who is not expected to know all answers and when he does, he is suspected of cheating. Yaman, explains throughout the movie how an youngster from the slums knew all the answers. Each answer had an association with his hard life.

IT´s not a movie with great actors or visual effects, it´s the content of it what makes it different. Yamannnnnnnnnnnnnnnn..!!i also like the soundtrack and the dance at the end when they show the credits..so bollywood style! i do hope this movie wins many more well-deserved awards!

Do you want to feel with a very aesthetic movie?" Les jeunes amants" - The Young Lovers(2021)
