Russian Ballet "the Swan Lake" at the Grand Canal Theater Dublin// lago de los Cisnes en el Teatro del Gran Canal (Dublín)

English version Abajo en Español

This evening I have witnessed from 7,30 pm to 22.20 "Swan Lake" by the genius composer Tchaikovsky. A mixture of armony , precission of body movements and beauty perfomed by the Russian ballet along with the music of the live orchestra surrounded by the magnificient acoustic of the new Grand Canal theater. It was magical to see the 20 female dancers pretending to be swans surrounding the main female"Swan" dancing along with the prince in an elegant and delicate manner. They really looked like swans to me! Apart from the numerous and aesthetic dances of the prince with the swan, there was a surprising act of 2 female Russian dancers and 2 male ones dancing with “abanicos” with a touch of flamenco Spanish music in fine-looking black flamenco style dresses. I also adored the act with 4 female swans dancing holding their hands all the time and moving their feet in such a quick, clean and sharp way. (see picture)

I loved the different theater sets (in the palace or in the forest), the original and coloufoul costumes and the softness of the arm and leg movements of every single dancer! The prince and the jester spinned around in circles in the air and jumped like birds! it looked as if they could fly! beautiful! Regarding the new theater, I have only compliments about the modern architecture of it, quality of sound and its premises, very well organized and with plenty of staff taking care of the audience.

To me it has been the most gratifying and satisfactory experiences i have had watching a ballet at a theater. Wherever you are, if you have the chance to see them, don´t hesitate, at the end of the show you will feel like dancing ballet yourself!

Dj Tiesto and Paul Van Dyk concerts in Dublin (March 2010)

Yesterday I enjoyed along with thousand of people in the O2 Arena in Dublin , one of the biggest dance-trance/electronic music concerts I have been to: Dj Tiesto concert. When we got there i was a bit scared due to the amount of young knackers topless or in flashy track suits or t-shirts and the strong security measures (we even saw one arrest of one of the topless guys at the beginning of the night!) but throughout the night and due to the electric atmosphere full of dancing moves and happy faces, i totally forgot about the audience that surrounded us! We managed to get to the first row, Tiesto didnt stop smiling and the excellent combination of acoustic, big shouty audience and combinations of lights/screen made it an unforgetable night! To me Tiesto has been one of the best djs i have seen. He played from 8.20 to 1 a.m.

Talking of Tiesto i couldnt leave aside the other dj concert i have been to this month: Payl Van Dyk in Tripod (Dublin). The discotec Tripod is much smaller than the 02 Arena but it was also packed with fans of all ages (not so many knackers like in the O2..!) many more men than women like in most of the electronic music concert i have been to. Much more modest, only a mac computer and dj table and 3 screens showing Paul Van Dyk name or images and he did not smile so much or danced like Tiesto did. Van Dyk concert went faster for me than in Tiesto,i dont know i didnt realize that it was coming to an end (it was also shorter! from 00.00 to 3 a.m. so maybe that was the reason lol). Van Dyk´s supporter Dj was also very good Dj John Gibbons.

What both concerts had in common was the friendly , non-stop audience of any kind of all ages dancing to a rythm of energetic music! in Dj Tiesto we saw a 55 year old guy and a group of handicapped youths enjoying the music!

If you want to live the typical Spanish culture from the South with beautiful women in fashionable Spanish Flamenco dresses on nice Spanish horses with Flamenco music in the background surrounded by people of all ages having fun, dancing, drinking good and affordable Spanish wine, eating tapas in the known " casetas" ,all with free entrance (only a couple are private), you should go to my city in the last week of May (the Feria es every year around the same time). What are you waiting for? the closest airport is Málaga and then you can take a train for 15 euros and you will be in my city in one hour.

It´s high season in Córdoba so if you are thinking of going , you should book it all in advanced, if you are on a budget the youth hostel in Córdoba is very nice and centrical at the heart of the jewish quarter. There are many "hostales" around the same area with nice SPanish patios for an affordable price, too like the "hostal maestre". Once in Córdoba you can have excellent food for nice prices and you can go on foot to most of the tourist places. Don´t miss the "Mezquita" (unique and magnicifient!) and try out the best Spanish tortilla tapas for a bit more of an euro in the bar "Santos" just in front of the "mezquita". Take also into account that Córdoba is one of the hottest and sunniest cities in Spain, in May the temperature can be of 30 or 32 grades! so leave the umbrella at home and bring your sun glasses or shorts!

I´ll be there this year enjoying it in my Flamenco dress! For those of you who have not been to my city yet, May is the perfect time, we have parties all month long: Wine testing fair, "the Spanish patios fair" and the flower May crosses fair ! so pack your bags and go to the beautiful Andalucian city full of Arabic influence of : Córdoba
