From the 2nd of January 2011 - Spain becomes SMOKE FREE!

From 2nd of January 2011 , Spain is finally going to join other European countries such as Ireland (that was the pioneer!), Italy, Germany, Uk or France and smoking is going to be banned in most indoor public places (bars, discotecs and restaurants) . It has not been an easy decision after an unsuccessful partial-smoking ban was introduced in 2006 which many bars failed to comply with. I only hope businesses get strict and make smokers respect this law because it has been too many years already of passive smokers suffering the consequences of this bad habit of smoking. Only in Spain in 2010 , five hundred thousand people have died due to smoking and still this is not enough to put off some smokers. ME, as a passive smoker who has suffered this bad habit since i was a teenager, I would have loved to be able to be at my university cafeteria having a coffee without having a dry throat or itchy eyes! Let's not talk about going out to clubs ..,next day you can feel the smoke in your hair, skin and clothes! Don't get me wrong if you want to be a smoker and you are happy with shortening your life and dying of lung cancer even though your cigarette packages are warning you of that , fair play with what but with what i don't agree with, is that smokers do not only put their health at risk but others, too who have chosen not to smoke. I feel sorry for the business who invested in their premises to have smoking and non-smoking areas (this is the government fault for putting a partial ban, with smoke only a full ban works!), they should be remunerated. It's not going to be easy for Spaniards to take on board this law and it's also up to the public to make it respected (I'll believe me if I see anyone smoking in a non-smoking area)! Spanish non-smokers friend that had to put up with the smoke, this is going to change! and believe me, smokers will get used to it and going outside for a smoke is not that bad after all, i'm sure many smokers will quit when they have to go in the cold weather to have a fag! but no worries according to the government there are still going to be some hotels with smokers bedrooms..in the end, you get something!

My last post of this year is about something positive and good for the coming generations ,such as my nephews and nieces! a smoke free atmosphere!!! and to my smokers friends : NEW YEARS RESOLUTION QUIT SMOKING!! do you know how much money you would save and how much better your skin and teeth would look like! and what about having a fresh breath all day long??!! think about it!!

My favorite character from Glee found dead by Belén Delgado

This is the third post I write about Glee, the first one being about the series and how much i liked it and the second one a brief review of the concert I saw live in the O2 with the whole cast. I'm so glad I did not miss that concert, it was just like the tv series, full of positive energy and beautiful versions of famous songs combined with their dancing. What a shock this Sunday morning when I woke up, I checked my phone (as usual, it's the first thing I do lol) and I saw on the Facebook News Feeds that Cory Monteith was found dead at the age of 31 in a hotel room in Vancouver. I could just not believe it!! Such a young talented man!!! Another victim of vice! I will not be able to see him singing anymore with his partner and also member of the cast, Lea (Rachel in Glee). For me, Glee will never be the same without Finn (Cory's character). He was so nice, friendly and charismatic!! Why people are so fool to think that drugs can lead to anything good??!!! Cory, wherever you are right now, your soul and talent will remain , I'm watching videos where you were interviewed and gee you were so natural , handsome and young.. I can imagine how Lea is feeling.. if by any chance you read this Lea, you have the support of your Glee fans! Unfortunately we cannot control the wrong choices the person you love make ..

Here a video of his best performances, my favorite one is "we've got tonight" , "losing my religion"
"just the way you are"

and "Don't stop believing":

Here a link to my review of the Glee concert in Dublin:

Humble tirbute to a man I respect: Steve Jobs

It´s amazing how wikipedia gets updated so quickly, isn´t it? When your birth date and death date is in wikipedia, it´s a fact! Only a few people in history make a big impact in other´s people lives such as Steve Jobs did. To give you one example, I´m thinking of him right now that i´m forced to use my old vaio laptop which gets stucks every 10 minutes with this obsolete windows vista and this slow duo processor.Being this my second try of writting this post, first try : Computer froze and guess what? I lost the post! So here I´m again trying, I put the Mac sticker on the vaio to see if it makes it faster or more fashionable lol but it ain´t working arg! It´s simple, once you try Mac you never go back! Steve was the co-founder of Apple inc ,which curiously was created on the year I was born, is this a sign? How many people depend nowadays on iphones, ipads or Macs? I only want to thank Steven for making internet-addicts lives like me much easier! It´s easy to spend hours with an i-phone or mac which works so smoothly and which such a beautiful and light design! Unfortunately for you Steve, Cancer does not discriminate between rich and poor and even famous and rich people like you could not win the tough battle against pancreatic cancer. I wonder if you had time to enjoy life to the fullest, dying only at the age of 56 and working almost to the last minute, only resigning in August 2011! Sure whereever you are now, you will be inventing i-phone 6! Unbeliavable, huh? such original and trendy invetions having as an iconic advertisement campaign a bitten apple! What will be the symbology behind that? Uhm ..i´ll ask you one day if we meet!

Steve JObs 1955-2011 descanse en paz! R.i.p.

I leave you with this video of the beginning of Mac

Bye,Bye Amy Winehouse

A woman carrying a surname with the word "Wine" in it and whose major hit was a song saying "don't want to go to Rehab, no,no,no,no" couldn't end up in any other way as she did. I actually feel very sorry for her death, it's a pity that she could not overcome her addiction to drugs and alcohol and take avantage of her major unique talented career as a singer. Whether you are/were a fan of her or not, it is undeniable that there will not be another one like her. Only with 27 years of life ,she has won her place in the history of music with her 6 deserved music awards. I have to admit that i'm not a big fan of her but this does not mean that i cannot appreciate talent, her voice and style was unique and that's why i'm writing a few lines about her. I only hope that her death wakes some people up that may be suffering the same addiction that she had, her performances should be part of rehabilitation programs to assist other people and even be part of teenager education in high-schools.

I was actually seeing different performances of her in different times and i could not find a single one when she i could tell that she was sober or that she had not taken any drugs recently. So at one point I decided to stop watching her singing live in youtube and i moved to listening to her voice in the recorded songs in a cd and only then, i could really listen carefully to the actual lyrics of her songs to the end and enjoy her music. I was not able to enjoy her performances seeing her in that state, specially one of the last ones she did in Serbia where she could not even stand or sing, I felt even more sorry for her and her family , how come nobody stop that show and took her to a hospital? was it al about money and business? and what about the last "performance" in the i-tunes festival where she didn't even sing a word? Now he is on the number one of the charts, who is earning money with this?

Maybe Amy would not have been Amy being sober and with a regular haircut and wearing jeans, her addiction was part of her celebrity personality. One thing is true, as we say in Spanish " who plays with fires , ends up getting burned" & this is exactly what happened to Amy, you cannot play with drugs and live long and prosper.... , don't take me wrong, i'm not judging her, i'm no-one to judge, i'm just thinking loud about life and its consequences.

Who would say that 3 weeks ago when I was listening to the radio and they were talking about Amy saying that she was going to end up if she didn't get help that this was actually going to be the thing that happened. And who would say that on the news headlines on the same day would be the death of Amy Winehouse along with the death of 86 people in Norway killed by an evil psycho with a smiley face.

2 different tragedies, both unexpected and both of them were caused by 2 sources of evil: one : "drugs" and another one "an uncontrolled psycho mind". Life is full of coincidences and unexpected events.. so this is my final thought, good night all. All my respect to Amy Winehouse and family, big loss for the music industry. I leave you with one of my favorite songs " back to black":

The magic of Facebook

I wanted to write some lines about the magic of facebook. I have read many articles attacking the networking web page ,many written by people who are not regular users and dont even know how it works. Well, like everything, you have to know well how it works to make good use of it:set up your security privacy settings, dont accept people you dont know as friends,be careful with links your are sent or ads etc With all its faults and benefits, I think it's great to be able to find after more than 15years your best school mates or good university mates that you lost contact with because you all took different paths. Just yesterday, I found one invitation of an old friend from school and it brought so many good memoirs back. Through her i found most of my school friends linking one to the other. Each of my old friends are split living in different places and i dont think i would have ever found them back if it wouldnt have been for a network web page like facebook! i love technology and i love internet! some people may hate finding again people from school but i dont because my group of friends was a really close one and we shared many good moments together!i cant wait to catch up with them after so many years!thanx facebook!

orange trees in Southern Spain

For those of you who have been to Southern Spain, you may have wondered what happens to the oranges hanging on the orange trees. Orange trees that have become icons of our culture like in my city, Córdoba. Many tourists taste these oranges being unaware of their bitterness and then learn the lesson. I have always lived sorrounded by orange trees and only today ,by chance,i have bumped into the orange trees collectors and then i found out that the collected oranges are sent to U.k. so that they can produce bitter orange mermalade! If you haven´t been to Southern Spain yet, now you are warned: dont try to taste any orange hanging on a tree,if you want to know their flavour you have to go to U.k.!

My personal and humble Oscar´s ceremony review

Never is too late to comment on the oscar´s ceremony on the 22 feb 2009. I have to say that I agree with most of the given awards. I was lucky to
have seen most of the nominated movies.

Seann Penn deserved the actor leading role Oscar, his interpretation of Harvey Milk in the movie is unforgettable and at the end of the movie you really believe in his character. It was a pity though that Mickey Rourke couldn´t get the Oscar, the movie “the wrestler” really moved me and his comeback after so many years should have been more recognized. However, I do think Sean Penn´s role is much more elaborated and deep!
No words about Slum dog millionaire, I have already written about it after i saw the movie,so i don’t want to bore you with that but I wanted to show my recognition for the 8 Oscars this movie has received. I even loved the soundtrack!and the plot was very original and delivered an important message about the poverty in India. It was so sweet when the kids from the movie spoke to the reporters on the red carpet!

Very emotional as well when the oscar went to heath ledger and his family gave a speech in his name. His role was extraordinary and it´s a pity that he cannot win another oscar again.

I also wanted to mention, Wallee´s Oscar one of the most cherished animated characters I have seen in a long time!walleeeee. Man on wire´s award is also well deserved (i have written about it ,too..so). Last but not least, let´s talk about the female roles;I loved Kate Winslet´s speech when she won the Oscar for one of the most beautiful movies i have seen this year so far "the reader" and Penelope, as a Spanish fellow, i feel proud for her but i´m still not convinced that her role in “cristina ,Vicky in Barcelona” was so spectacular!

http://www.rtve.es/mediateca/videos/20090212/23-f-dia-mas-dificil-del-rey/406369.shtml

Kogelos´ (Kenya) celebrates Obama´s U.S. presidential era

On the 20th of January 2009, Barack Hussein Obama II, the 44th U.S first black American president sworn into office. Anecdoctly , he repeated the sworn in the White house because there were some errors in the official inaugural ceremony. On the first day of his mandate he signed the closure of the polemical Guantanamo prision. This president is going and has brought change to U.S.A. and the world from day one. A proof of this is African´s Obama´s father hometown: Kogelo. A small village in Kenya of only 5,000 inhabitants who lived in poor conditions.

The tourist draw that has already started in Kogelo due to Obama´s election has had a huge impact: Souvenirs with OBama´s face are sold, a museum: Obama cultural Centre is going to be built, infraestructures are being improved/built , schools carrying Obama´s name, only 2 days after OBama´s won Kogelo´s villagers had elecrtricity in their homes and governement is even planning to provide them with piped water. Isnt´it that great? It´s clear that OBama is not going to be able to fix the worldwide poverty, hunger and war issues but at least his image is already helping a poor village in Africa. The world eyes are set on Africa a beautiful continent full of resources that do need help.

Ciao Polaroid/Adiós Polaroid

In 1944 Polaroid was created by Edwin Land due to her daughter´s caprice. Numeours Artists like ANdy Warhol used it to create his first master pieces.Unfortunately, the Polaroid camera has become obsolete and the last films of polaroid will be distributed this year.

I remember when I was a kid and I always wanted to have a polaroid due to the quickness of getting the printed photo which you had to put inside a book not to spoil it (i usually couldn´t wait and open the book!).

Nowadays, this is no wish for a kid where they have everything digitilized.

I wanted to pay my special tribute to Polaroid with this self-portrait of Andy Warhol

A funny way to look at the crisis

In my hometown, Córdoba,as in many other Spanish cities, the present global financial crisis is the favourite topic of converstation. It even plays an important role in menu restaurants to get new costumers. If you stayed at home to save money due to the crisis, dont do it anymore!! Many restaurants and bars have new menus that go with the situation : menu of the crisis! you will have a cheaper price and even a gift (this will depend on the bar, cafeteria or restaurant).

"I have a dream : an African American became the US president

EVen one day before the elections you could see on the charity auction on eBay of a unique special U.S. presidential election dolls that not many people were bidding on Mc Cain´s doll..the highest bid was at 2.000 $ and the OBama´s doll was already at almost 8.000 $ and Sara Balin´s highest bid was even over the Obama´s one. You may think this is stupid but people manifest their views and ideas even when they buy on the internet.

What is clear is that Barack Hussein Obama II´s election on the 5th 11 2008 has been a big step ahead in history from the beginning of black slavery.

If someone would have told me 5 years ago that a black African American was going to become the president of U.S.A. I would have not believed it,would you¿

Obama won the hearts of many black, immigrants from different countries/races who did not feel had a voice in America and did not bother to vote in the past. A group of minorites that became a majority giving him the victory. It has been said that OBama may not be as experienced as Mc Mcain, this may be true but Obama has had a difficult life fighting since he was a kid and can really understand the most common issues of the working class who are the vast majority (being abandoned by his father and he diying of alcohol and drugs problems). MC Cain also had a hard life as a soldier and prisioner in the Vietnam´s war but being 72 years himself, belonging to a different generation, he could not give America the fresh and modern view Obama can. America did not want a soldier talking about defending his country.

There are many concerns about OBama´s policy on taxation for American companies and that all U.s. companies established in Ireland may move back to U.S.A, I think that these views maybe a bit precipitated and we have to give him time, time for the change that is much needed in the US politics. In case this happens, Ireland may be able to live more on his own economy or even support more the EU decissions that have not been supported in the past such as the Lisbon treaty maybe due to the U.S. support.

I only hope that Obama does not end like many other inspirational icons suchs as Kennedy or MArtin Luther King.

America has spoken, the world is multiracial and there is no room for voters like the old creepy man I saw in Euronews before the elections who said that did not vote for Obama because he did not like niggers..of course he was in favour of Mc Cain..
